[ Boost gauge install ]
Hopefully you will find this HowTo usefull but plase dont blame me if it goes wrong. I aint a mecanic and I was deadimpressed that I got all this to work! Also you will have to put up with my inability to write engrish :)
When I took these pics I had aleady fitted the gauges but had not wired in the lighting bulbs up. Being noued that I could not see them in the dark I decided to take them back out and write this HowTo when refitted them.
Pull out the dash trim by putting your hand in the gator at the base of
the gear stick and pulling up. The whole of this part is just held in by
6 clips and comes out easily. Unscrew the six screws holding the center
plastic part in, 2 on the top in front of the gear stick, 2 on the sides
at the front (as in the pic above) and 2 at the side at the rear next to
the seats. You will have to put the seat all the way back to get to these.
Unscrew the gear stick knob. This can be difficult but mine came off
very easily! Lift the gator of the stick. Pull the handbrake on as far
as it will go and then lift the plastic trim up and over it taking care
not to damage wiring
Undo the 4 screws on the bracket holding in the stereo and box/tape
storage thingy. Take the screw out the sides of both and move the stereo
to the bottom of the brackets. The tape holder I had below the stereo
has 2 plastic bracket things that slid along the sides. Take theseoff
and reattach them to the metal brackets so the longer end is it towards
the front. The will help hold the DIN plate in place.
On the underside of the center trim tap into the ashtray light wires. I
did this just behind the hand brake hole as there is not much slack in
these wires. I took the piece of trim the sits around the gear stick off
to get at these wires to unclip them, take them out and splice in the
new wires. Greenish on is live and the darker on earth. Then run the
wires forward.
Run these wires around the gear stick. I left pleanty of space just in
case of fouling the lower gator. Then up around the radio and to were
the gauges will be.
Join the new write and the wires from the gauges.
I've currently tapped in to the boost line running across the back of
the engine to the FPR. I've done it near that join so if I do move the
gauge and plumbing to have the gauge Apillar mounted I can just rejoin
the pipe at the join. The gauges didn't come with cable ties but I
fitted blue one (but they dont match) for a bit of piece of mind. I have
no idea if they do any good though. The new clear boost line is pushed
well into the blue tube on the Tpiece and the secured with another cable
tie. The clear boost tube then goes down the back on the engine an
through a huge grommet in the passenger foot well (or it would if I
hadn't lost mine messing around, must get another one). The is run round
the top of the passenger foot well to the back of the dash to where the
radio is.
To fit the tube to the gauge first slip the sealing nut on to the tube
then the ferrule (the little bead lookalike thing) on it the tube as
well. The attach the adapter nut thing to the guage. Position the end of
tube in the adapter nut and the tighten the sealing nut over the
ferrule. The ferrule will deform by the pressure of the sealing nut and
seal the joint.
Both of my gauges fitted so well into the DIN plate there didnt seem to
need to secure them but I put the rubber bands that held them steady in
the box around the rear of them anyway
Finally position the DIN plate above the radio, the plastic bracket bits
should stop it falling in. Put the center section back then the trim
surround should over lap and the pressure from the clips holds the plate
in position. Don't forget to put your knob back on!
