New exhaust time
So this was going to be a nice easy quick job eh? take about an hour no worries, full garage at our disposal
what could be more simple? er.... quantum physics.

What arrived was a manifold, lovely 3 into 2 into 1, a main pipe, pretty much straight with a couple of kinks in the end 1 3/4" and about a foot too long! and a silencer, with a tail pipe that squewed across and slightly up!!!!! er odd to say the least.
However choping a bit off the end of an exhaust is not something thats too far outside my range of experties, ( especially as i didnt have to do it, having conned a very helpfull mechanic/brother in law for this er... quick job )

Step one, remove the carbs and inlet manifold all as a single unit, and rest them on the engine
Step two, burn fingers on exhaust
Step three, remove tail pipe, main pipe and manifold all as one unit, nice and simple so far, damn handy these ramps ;o)

Ok, now we can get the new exhaust in place, except for one small detail... the old manifold joined 3 into 1 and a single pipe went through underneath the car, with the new manifold 3 joins to two and then 2 pipes go though underneath, except of course they dont because the space left isnt big enuff, there is a chasis rail and a steal plate in the way!

Time for the angle grinder, taking out as little metal as possible because we aint sure what the stresses on this part of the car are
Still wont fit, just cant get the manifold at the right angle to get it through the gap in the bottom of the car, more angle grinding! More swearing and pushing and
Yes! at sodding last.
With the manifold in place and bolted to the block the next step is to cut the main pipe down to the correct length, holding it up under the car it sticks out the back! without the silencer on! hmmm just slightly long ;o) dont think i'll get away without any silencers.
Slice a good 18 inches off the the pipe and were on to the next step, a home made rubber exhaust mount mid way down the car, and the silencer mounted at the existing point, and its on! And then its off again, gunked up back on and ready for firing up!
The exhaust parts are such a good fit we didnt even need to cut slits down the pipe ;o) good! but still there is a slight problem... the manifold is still pressing hard up againt a rail on the underside of the car, and with the engine running slowly, i.e. iddeling or conking out ;o) it clangs against it, the easy way to solve this is to head the pipe up and bend it, but wre out of gas, so the car will have to spend another week in the garage before it gets to blast about in the sun
It does sound bloody brilliant however! Not like a tiny 1275 engine at all! Ive really gotta fit that starter button soon
Ok, i'll finish this off with some more pictures of the fitted exhaust next weekend when weve got it bent into place

a long day, so i decided to amuse myself when i got home by giving the dog my yogurt pot when i had finished, always good for a laugh.. "here bramble!"
As always thanks to Dan for getting ropped in to help, and Trev for lending us his garage ;o) mugs!
